Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our services in Wiri, South Auckland

Warrant of Fitness (WOF)

01
How much does a WOF cost at Auckland Auto Repairs?
+
We offer competitively priced WOF inspections. Please call us on 022-5710752 or request a quote online for our current pricing. We are always upfront about costs with no hidden fees.
02
Can I get a same-day WOF inspection?
+
Yes! We offer same-day WOF inspections. Walk-ins are welcome, but calling ahead on 022 5710752 helps us get you in faster, especially during busy periods. We’re open Monday to Friday 9am–6pm and Saturday 9am–4pm.
03
What does a WOF inspection check?
+
A Warrant of Fitness (WOF) is a safety inspection required by NZ law. Our certified inspectors check:

  • Brakes — pads, discs, drums and handbrake
  • Tyres — tread depth, condition and pressure
  • Lights — headlights, indicators, brake lights, reverse lights
  • Steering and suspension
  • Windscreen wipers and washers
  • Seatbelts and airbags
  • Exhaust system and emissions
  • Structural integrity of the vehicle

You’ll receive a written report of everything checked.

04
My car failed its WOF — can you fix it on the spot?
+
Absolutely. We specialise in WOF repairs and in most cases can fix the issue the same day so you leave with a current WOF. Common repairs include brakes, lights, tyres, windscreens, and suspension. We’ll always give you a clear quote before starting any work — no surprises.
05
How often does my car need a WOF in New Zealand?
+
In New Zealand, WOF frequency depends on your vehicle’s age:

  • Vehicles first registered before 2000: Every 6 months
  • Vehicles first registered from 2000 onwards: Every 12 months

Not sure when yours is due? Your current WOF label is on your windscreen, or you can check on the NZTA website using your plate number.

06
Can I drive my car if my WOF has expired?
+
Technically you can drive to a WOF inspection station, but driving with an expired WOF otherwise is illegal and you can be fined. If your WOF has expired, we recommend calling us on 09 220 2210 to book in as soon as possible. Walk-ins are welcome.

WINZ Quotes & Funding
01
Do you accept WINZ quotes for car repairs?
+
Yes — we are a registered WINZ supplier. Work and Income NZ (WINZ) can help eligible clients cover the cost of car repairs, WOF repairs, and mechanical work. Bring your WINZ approval paperwork and we’ll take care of the rest.
02
How does the WINZ car repair process work?
+
It’s simple — here’s how it works:

  • Step 1: Contact Work and Income NZ (0800 559 009) and ask about a car repair grant
  • Step 2: WINZ may ask you to get quotes from a registered supplier — that’s us
  • Step 3: Bring your paperwork or WINZ approval to us at 20/69 Wiri Station Road
  • Step 4: We provide a detailed, official quote and carry out the approved repairs
  • Step 5: WINZ pays us directly — no stress for you

Call us on 022-5710752 if you have any questions about the process.

03
What types of repairs does WINZ cover?
+
WINZ can cover a range of essential vehicle repairs including WOF inspections, WOF repairs (brakes, lights, tyres, steering), general mechanical repairs, and auto electrical work. What’s approved depends on your individual circumstances and WINZ case manager. We can help with the quote for whatever is approved.
04
Do I need to be on a benefit to get a WINZ car repair grant?
+
Generally yes — WINZ car repair assistance is available to people receiving a benefit or in financial hardship. Contact Work and Income NZ directly on 0800 559 009 to find out if you’re eligible. We can provide the official quote once your application is approved.
